Phenakistoscope Beta Episode 02 – Schroedinger’s Recording

The following is the second beta episode of a super-casual movie podcast that I recorded with my brother, Graeme, several months ago (December ‘08 or January ‘09). Three beta episodes were made initially to test out our on-mic chemistry, reviewing abilities, and audio quality. As such, I cannot guarantee their quality compared to the forthcoming real episodes. *cough*Not that I can guarantee the quality of the real episodes when they come around, anyway.*cough*

Now I will be releasing those beta episodes on Robomiko.com at a rate of one a week. After that, you will occasionally get new, “real” episodes of this podcast, though I can’t guarantee how often “occasionally” will be. Please comment to let us know whether you A) like this show and want it to continue or B) hate it and hope it dies in a fire.

What follows is the original description for Beta 02. WARNING, stronger language present in this podcast than in other Robomiko.com shows!

Today on Phenakistoscope, we review the 2007 action/black comedy, Shoot ‘Em Up. It was conceived, written, directed, storyboarded, fed, burped, raised, and rescued from badass, amoral assassins by Michael Davis, and it stars Clive Owen as the baddest motherf***in’ vegetarian ever.

I recognize the name Megumi Hayashibara, but mainly because the first anime I ever watched while knowing that it was called “Anime” was “Oh My Goddess.” The 5-episode version, that is. I’m not a mega-fan of hers, but I’ve noticed that a lot of anime that I like seems to feature her voice in one way or another.

Never thought I’d see/hear a positive review of Shoot ‘Em Up. I thought Shoot ‘Em Up was a fun movie just by being what it was. Looking at the trees for the forest here, just the way that they had the entire movie be one long gunfight, even going so far as to wedge a love scene in the middle of it all somewhere, was genius. Of course, as you had discussed, there were brief scenes without bullets in the air, but

Blarg, ADHD + no edit button = :(

anyways, to continue, but also as you had discussed in the podcast, they needed to fit some plot in there somewhere, otherwise the movie would be “all that meat and no potatoes.”
